Ep58: The Games of the Generation

This is it - since this is the last week on earth before the games industry welcomes the next generation of consoles, we look back at the last 7 years and, somewhat unfairly, condense the collective artistic and technical accomplishments that went into creating games down into a trite top 10 list.

What starts as a list of around 50 titles is whittled down to a nub over the course of the show's 2 hour runtime.

It is the ultimate battle for generational supremacy. The time is now. What are the 10 best games of this generation?

NEWS
Rockstar has said the GTA Online patch is live for PS3. It's working to have it released for Xbox 360 "as soon as possible today".

Konami apologises for PES 2014 Xbox 360 issues - Xbox 360 owners are required to download two patches before being able to play the game online, in the form of Patch 1.01 alongside Data Pack 1.00, though many users are reporting that it is not possible to properly download the latter with the former installed.

As usual we also have charts and listener questions to answer... including a dirty one from Steve's wife.

Ep48: Sun's Out Guns Out

Her couch is an animus of the mind.  Indeed, this week the kimono is lifted on the realized future-vision of George Lucas -- namely, the female-centric "adventure game" called Everlove.

Who'd have thunk it? Games for men are all about empowerment and fantasy fulfillment, but games for women are apparently poorly-crafted digital books in which all of your in-game choices are inconsequential and mean nothing. By women for women? Everlove developer Silicon Sisters has a lot to answer for.

Games covered this week include: Everlove, Rush Bros, Brutal Legend, Space Marine, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Knack, Godus, Kentucky Route Zero, Dear Esther, Coming Home, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: OOTS, Borderlands 2, Hotline Miami, Counterstrike: Source, Trucker's Delight, Crossfingers, Dropchord, The Room, Terraria, Dishonored and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero.

We also talk about Nintendo's 2DS announcement and talk about some desirable next-gen launch day potential buys.

Ep47: Blamescom

While Steve is away at the beach enjoying infectious mosquito bites around his feet and ankles, Jon and Fraser talk Papers Please, Blood Stone 007 , Uncharted 3 (fuck you!), and Infamous 2 (fuck you too, game!), Bioshock Infinite,Tiny Thief, Star Wars Pinball , and  World of Tanks.

We also wax gibbous about the games shown at this year's massive Gamescom convention, and as usual we've got charts and contest winners and listener questions to talk about, too.

Oh, and Fraser has also been winning tons of shit off the Overseas Connection podcast, designing a game in the process. For real.

Ep46: World of Thanks

Fraserrrr! Fraser is missing this week, so Jon and Steve cast a pod consisting of 50% love-fest and 50% hate-cast.

The GamePunchers Podcast takes you to Boner Mountain this week with Ep46, containing epic recollections of playing Brothers: Tale of Two Sons, World of Tanks, Sorcery, Clash of Clans, and Space Hulk... Everlove cannot yet be addressed, however, due to embargo.

As well as all this, we cover the Grand Theft Auto Online trailer, the Everquest 2 trailer, and briefly touch on upcoming games to watch out for, as well as the global sales charts.

Ep44: Zip Dicky From Pumpernickle Studios

REJOICE! Fraser is now in the permanent 3rd chair on the GamePunchers Podcast. SOLIDARITY!

Quakecon! Global software and hardware sales! Steam cards! And many other things that I can't remember we talked about. I remember Borderlands 2, World of Tanks, Magic the Gathering and The Wicher 2 are in there somewhere, for reals.

Ep42: Zombie Fleshlight

Here's everything that went wrong: Steve introduced the show by incorrectly calling it episode 41, Jon started talking about fleshlights in the middle of his Walking Dead: 400 Days rant, Steve laboriously read aloud all of the games on his Steam list that he also owns on other platforms, and we topped it off by bringing Fraser into the conversation  for the last 20 minutes, only to discover at the end that no one was recording his audio. Oh yeah, Steve went off on a thing about D&D board game like Dungeon Commander and Wrath of Ashardalon , and tries to explain Gamma World badly.

So the podcast is late going up because Steve basically spent all day ninja editing-out any sentence that Fraser had involvement in, as it wouldn't make sense you just hearing Steve and Jon. See if you can spot where the editing starts - hint, it's as Steve is talking about the Strider remake.

Besides all of that, we had a great show and you should probably listen to it.

Games covered this week  include Dark Souls, Deus Ex, Fez, Machinarium, Surgeon Simulator, Torchlight 2, Walking Dead: 400 Days
